Overview

ISC2 is a non-profit body that certifies cyber security professionals. CISSP is its best-known credential for experienced security leaders. CC (Certified in Cybersecurity) is its entry-level certification and needs no work experience.

  • Experienced security managers, architects and consultants (CISSP)
  • People starting a cyber security career (CC)
  • Security administrators and practitioners (SSCP)
  • Cloud security professionals (CCSP)

Versions

CISSP

Senior security credential. Needs five years of relevant work experience. New exam outline from 15 April 2027.

CC – Certified in Cybersecurity

Entry-level. No work experience required.

SSCP

Hands-on security practitioner credential.

CCSP, CGRC, CSSLP

Specialist credentials in cloud security, governance/risk and secure software.

ISSAP, ISSEP, ISSMP

CISSP concentrations in architecture, engineering and management.

  • US Department of Defense DoDM 8140.03 roles
  • Government and banking security roles that ask for CISSP

Test format

ISC2 sections

CISSPComputerised Adaptive Testing (CAT). 100 to 150 items: multiple choice and advanced item types. 3 hours.

Total time: CISSP: 3 hours. Other exams vary.

Scores and validity

Scoring
CISSP: scaled score; 700 out of 1,000 is needed to pass.
Validity
Three-year certification cycle. CISSP holders must earn 120 CPE credits over three years and pay an annual maintenance fee (USD 135 for certified members; USD 50 for CC).

Fees are set by the test owner, were checked on 21 October 2026, and can change. Confirm the price when you book. GAPICT never takes exam fees.

On test day

Identification

Valid government-issued photo ID in line with ISC2 and Pearson VUE rules.

Arrive early, bring only what the test owner allows, and expect identity checks and a photo at check-in. Read our test day guide and exam day FAQs.

How to book

Exam seats for ISC2 are booked and paid on the test owner's own system. Delivered through: Pearson VUE (Pearson Professional Centres and selected Pearson VUE test centres).

    Register on isc2.org; you are then sent to Pearson VUE to book the appointment.

    Create or sign in to your account on the official booking site.

  3. 3

    Choose your exam, then a test centre, date and time.

  4. 4

    Pay the exam fee to the test owner and keep your confirmation email.

  5. 5

    Check the ID rules and arrive early on test day.

You book and pay in your Pearson VUE account. Rescheduling deadlines (often 24–48 hours) and fees are set by each exam programme.

GAPICT cannot take bookings for this exam. Exam seats are booked and paid on the test owner's system.

ISC2 FAQs

Which languages is CISSP offered in?
Chinese, English, German, Japanese and Spanish. Chinese exams run only in set windows.
Is the CC exam still free?
ISC2's One Million Certified in Cybersecurity programme stopped taking new enrolments on 20 May 2026. The standard CC price is USD 199.
Is CISSP changing?
Yes. A new CISSP exam outline takes effect on 15 April 2027.
What does it cost to reschedule?
USD 50 to reschedule and USD 100 to cancel.
